To bann an ip address manually you should use iptable. In most of linux servers iptable installed by default.

To block an ip address run this command as root in ssh :

iptables -A INPUT -s <IP> -j DROP

example :

Firstly login to SSH.

Proceed to folder 'root'
cd root
If you get: -bash: cd: root: No such file or directory
Don't worry, this just means you are already in root directory.
